Eleven people, including five firefighters, were hurt when a three-alarm fire ripped through a Hells Kitchen apartment building Wednesday night, the FDNY said.
The fire broke out on the top floor at 359 W. 45th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues shortly after 10 p.m., a spokesman for the fire department said. A cell tower on the roof hampered firefighting efforts, and crews brought the blaze under under control before midnight, the FDNY said.
The five-story building had to be evacuated and four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The rest of those injured were treated at the scene, an FDNY spokesman said.
It was not immediately apparent what started the blaze. The building was declared structurally unstable as a result of the fire and tenants were forced to vacate the apartment, FDNY press said.

The only thing we know for certain is that someone was stabbed. WABC reported that a stabbing, outside some unspecified restaurant, happened in front of 350 West 45th St. But that would be the mid-block parking lot. They also said the fight spilled out onto Ninth Avenue. Another report, from dnainfo.com, claimed the incident was at Eighth Avenue and that five suspects were arrested. Dnainfo.com displayed a photo that clearly was not of West 45th St. WABC reported only had three suspects, but then said four were arrested in the next paragraph.
A wild fight outside a Manhattan restaurant ended with three people stabbed and three people in custody. The victims were attacked outside 350 West 45th Street around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Police say a 19-year-old woman was slashed on left forearm, a 20-year-old man was stabbed in the lower back and a 20-year-old man was slashed on the left shoulder. The injured people were taken to Bellevue Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Four men — two 19-year-olds, an 18-year-old and a 26-year-old — were taken into custody at the scene. Charges against them are pending. They were all identified as Manhattan residents. A box cutter, believed to be one of the weapons used, was recovered at the scene. It appears the victims and suspects got into a dispute in front of a restaurant and then spilled onto Ninth Avenue. Police closed West 45th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues for hours as they investigated.
